About VIN Lookup
VIN Lookup helps U.S. consumers understand vehicle identity and safety recall information without an account, payment wall, or exaggerated data claims.
What we do
Our tools validate a modern 17-character VIN, request manufacturer-reported decoding information from NHTSA vPIC, and retrieve safety recall campaigns associated with a decoded or selected year, make, and model. Results are organized so useful fields are easy to read on a phone or desktop.
The core tools are free. There is no registration, subscription, credit-card requirement, or VIN search-history database.
Why the limitations are visible
Public VIN decoding is not a commercial vehicle history report. We do not claim to provide accident records, owners, insurance claims, liens, title brands, auction photographs, service history, or odometer-fraud findings.
NHTSA’s documented public recalls API returns campaigns by model. A model match does not establish exact-VIN applicability or unrepaired status. The result page links to official NHTSA verification for that final step.
Our sources and independence
Applicable vehicle data comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and its Product Information Catalog and Vehicle Listing system. VIN Lookup is independently operated and is not affiliated with NHTSA, the U.S. Department of Transportation, or a vehicle manufacturer.
Start with the free VIN lookup, focus on specifications in the VIN decoder, or research campaigns with the vehicle recall check.
