VIN to vehicle identity
The workflow begins by validating and decoding the VIN through NHTSA vPIC. The returned model year, make, and model become the inputs for the documented NHTSA recalls API.
If those identity fields are incomplete, the tool shows the available decode without pretending it can complete the recall query.
Recall campaigns associated with the model
The public recall endpoint returns campaigns for the year, make, and model. Each card can include the component, campaign number, manufacturer number, summary, consequence, remedy, report date, and notes.
A model match does not establish that every VIN is affected. Production ranges, equipment, and manufacturing dates can narrow the recall population.
Verify exact-VIN status
Use the direct official NHTSA verification link after reviewing the model campaigns. The manufacturer portal or authorized dealer can also confirm whether a recall applies and whether its remedy is still outstanding.
The site never converts model-level counts into claims such as ‘your car has open recalls.’ If no campaigns are returned, the result also avoids declaring the vehicle completely recall-free.
